In two weeks, I am opening a new course on my English CHAMPION teaching site that integrates free market capitalism with the arts and humanities:

Economics and Literature.

Here’s a sneak peek!

This video comes from the module on division of labor and comparative advantage. Each module contains texts from capitalist economists, most in the Austrian School tradition, as well a literary text for seeing economic concepts brought to life. John Steinbeck’s excellent short story, of course, is what I reference here. And I include several discussion/writing prompts for students to tackle.

While the course is meant to be introductory, the readings and ideas I cover are intended for grades 7-12. As with all of my courses, the materials are most effective when parents or teachers engage with the content alongside the students, creating opportunities for interaction with one another.

From classic novels and poems to hit films and tv shows, I present lots of forms of literature, and learning the basics of economics simultaneously will help students see the power of stories and language to demonstrate the complexity of the human experience.

I look forward to seeing you there!
